LAFAYETTE TOWNSHIP BOARD OF ZONING APPEALS
Organizational Meeting
January 10, 2008, at 7:00 p.m.
6776 Wedgewood Road, Medina, Ohio
Chairman Paul Calvo called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. Roll call indicated four members of the Board of Zoning
Appeals were present: Paul Calvo, Dave Parker, Mark Riffle, and Andrea Kacinari. Jack Blank and Jack Chester
(alternate) were absent. Zoning Commission Chair Karen Schoonover was also present.
Organization
After discussion, Paul Calvo made a motion to table the election of officers until the township trustees would name any
new or replacement members to the Board. Dave Parker seconded the motion. It was unanimously approved. It was
agreed that the Board would continue to hold its regular meetings for 2008 on a quarterly basis on the first Thursday at
7:00 p.m. at the township hall.
Minutes
Upon motion by Dave Parker, duly seconded by Andrea Kacinari, the minutes of December 6, 2007, was unanimously
approved.
Correspondence
The Board reviewed and discussed the following items:
(1) Letter dated 12/21/07 from A.P. James Bennett indicating that at the 12/20/07 pretrial in the pending litigation
(Bedford v. Lafayette Township) the plaintiff’s attorney agreed to dismiss the case.
(2) Memo dated 12/27/07 from the zoning secretary with a correction page in the zoning code language relating to
the Lafayette Township transitional District
(3) Flyer announcing the Workshops and Activities Scheduled for 2008 for the Medina County Department of
Planning Services.
(4) Letter dated 1/4/08 from A.P. James Bennett relative to Multiple Uses on a Commercial Lot (opinion requested
by Chairman Calvo).
New Business
Matters discussed by the Board included:
(1) If and when Mr. Gruber resubmits for a Conditional Use along with the appropriate Variance application, there
would be no additional charge to him. It was further suggested that additional precautions be taken when the Board
considers the new applications.
(2) It was suggested to the Zoning Commission Chair that they look at the possibility of rezoning areas along the
south end of Lake Road.
(3) The zoning code was discussed relative to the Lafayette Township Transitional District and also as to the
Planned Unit Development (PUD) zoning and which developments currently in the township are under the PUD zoning
and/or in the LTTD and/or Medina City Buffer Zone.
It was further determined that some Board members did not have a Lafayette Township Zoning Map and some had
outdated maps from 2004. The MCDPS will be contacted in order to get current maps for the Board.
Announcements
The next regular meeting is scheduled for Thursday, April 3, 2008,at 7:00 p.m. at the township hall, 6776 Wedgewood
Road, Medina, Ohio. If any zoning applications, which would need to be considered by the Board, are filed in the
interim, the secretary will contact the Board members to schedule a public hearing date.
It was announced that the Lafayette Township Zoning Commission organizational meeting and continued public hearing
date relative to the map amendment filed by Attorney Stan Scheetz on behalf of Medina County Club et al is scheduled
for Monday, January 14, 2008, 7:00 p.m. at the old Lafayette School Building, 6357 Lafayette Road.
Adjournment
Upon motion by Mark Riffle, seconded by Andrea Kacinari, it was unanimously approved that the meeting be adjourned.
