Lafayette Township is a zoned community (click here

, with regulations set forth in the
Lafayette Township Zoning Resolution.   It is the
purpose of Zoning to promote the public health and
safety which is directly and significantly affected by
the use of land; to protect the Township's natural
resources, scenic areas and natural beauty; to protect
the property rights of all individuals by assuring the
compatibility of uses and practices within established
districts and to provide for adequate public services
and the orderly development of land in accordance
with the Comprehensive Plan and the Township
Zoning Resolution.

A copy of the official Lafayette Township Zoning
Resolution can be purchased by contacting the
Township Fiscal Officer at 330/725-6515.  There are
plans to make the zoning resolution available on this
website in the future, as well as the various
application forms for zoning permits.

Zoning Inspector
The Township's Zoning Inspector is charged with the
responsibility of pursuing any zoning violations and
ensuring the zoning resolution is enforced.  The
Zoning Inspector also reviews and processes incoming
applications for new construction, whether it be new
homes, outbuildings and barns, decks, etc. for
compliance with the terms of the zoning resolution.

If you are planning to build an addition, outbuilding
or barn, or any other structure on your property such
as a deck or swimming pool, please make sure to
contact the Zoning Inspector to apply for a zoning
permit prior to starting work on the project to make
sure that your plans fall within the zoning guidelines.

Zoning Commission
Lafayette Township has a Zoning Commission in place, which is charged with
establishing zoning districts and developing zoning language and regulations.  

Regular Zoning Commission meetings are held the first Tuesday of every month
(legal holidays etc. might change the date).  Special meetings, workshop meetings
and public hearings are scheduled as needed and do not necessarily occur on the

Board of Zoning Appeals
The Board of Zoning Appeals considers applications for zoning issues which may
involve variances from the Township's Zoning Resolution.

Regular Board of Zoning Appeal meetings are held the first Thursday of each quarter
(January, April, July, October).  Special meetings and public hearings are scheduled
as needed and do not necessarily occur on the regular meeting night.  All meetings
