LAFAYETTE TOWNSHIP BOARD OF ZONING APPEALS

Organizational Meeting and Regular Meeting

6776 Wedgewood Road, Medina, Ohio

January 8, 2009, at 7:00 p.m.

 

(Note:  Immediately prior to the meeting the reappointed members and new members of the Board of Zoning Appeals were sworn in by Trustee Don Butler.  The board members each introduced themselves.)

 

Organizational Meeting

Zoning Secretary Marlene Oiler called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.  Roll call indicated five members of the Board of Zoning Appeals were present:  Dave Parker, Mark Riffle, Andrea Kacinari, David Jenkins and Lisa Takach.  Jack Chester (alternate) and Athena McAfee (alternate) were also present.  Others present were Paul Calvo and Trustee Don Butler.

 

Nominations for the office of Chair were opened.  Mark Riffle nominated Andrea Kacinari, seconded by Dave Parker.  There were no further nominations for the office of Chair.  The Board proceeded to vote for the nomination of Andrea Kacinari for chair; the vote was unanimous and Andrea Kacinari was elected Chair for 2009.

 

Nominations for the office of Vice Chair were opened.  Dave Parker nominated David Jenkins, seconded by Mark Riffle.  Andrea Kacinari nominated Mark Riffle, seconded by Lisa Takach.  There were no further nominations.  The Board proceeded to vote and Mark Riffle was elected Vice Chair for 2009 by a vote of 3-2.

 

It was agreed that the Board would continue to hold its regular meetings for 2009 on a quarterly basis on the first Thursday at 7:00 p.m. at the township hall (April 2, July 2 and October 1, 2009).

 

It was announced that Don Butler was appointed as the Zoning Boards trustee liaison for the year 2009.

 

The organizational meeting was closed.

 

Regular Meeting

Chair Andrea Kacinari called the meeting to order at 7:08 p.m.  Roll call indicated five members of the Board of Zoning Appeals were present:  Dave Parker, Mark Riffle, Andrea Kacinari, David Jenkins and Lisa Takach.  Jack Chester (alternate) and Athena McAfee (alternate) were also present.  Others present were Paul Calvo and Trustee Don Butler.

 

Minutes

Upon motion by Dave Parker, duly seconded by Mark Riffle, the minutes of December 4, 2008, was unanimously approved as corrected and signed.

 

Correspondence

The secretary distributed a copy of the 12/30/08 letter from Attorney James O’Connor re. Eck v. Bady et al v. Lafayette Township et al.

 

The secretary distributed a flyer announcing the Medina County Department of Planning Zoning Workshops for January – May 2009 and all board members were encouraged to attend these very informative workshops.  The workshops will be held at the University of Akron, Medina County Campus, 6300 Technology Lane, Room 309 in Lafayette Township and commence at 6:30 p.m.  The first scheduled workshop is January 21st on the topic of “Basics of Zoning” with Bill Thorne from the Medina County Prosecutor’s Office as the speaker.

 

Old Business

The secretary advised that Zoning Inspector Alliss Strogin had recently obtained a more detailed map of the Chippewa Lake area and she is doing further research into the issue of the nonconforming lots in that area.

 

New Business

The secretary distributed a draft copy of the Lafayette Township Comprehensive Plan revision for the members to review.  In the next few months there will be township meetings to review this draft before it is finalized.

 

Announcements

The next regular meeting is scheduled for Thursday, April 2, 2009,at 7:00 p.m. at the township hall, 6776 Wedgewood Road, Medina, Ohio.  If any zoning applications, which would need to be considered by the Board, are filed in the interim, the secretary will contact the Board members to schedule a public hearing date.

 

Adjournment

Upon motion by Mark Riffle, seconded by David Jenkins, it was unanimously approved that the meeting be adjourned.  Meeting adjourned at 7:30 p.m.
