Organizational Meeting and Regular Meeting
(Note: Immediately prior to the meeting the reappointed members and new members of the Board of Zoning Appeals were sworn in by Trustee Don Butler. The board members each introduced themselves.)
Zoning Secretary Marlene Oiler called the meeting to order

Nominations for the office of Vice Chair were opened. Dave Parker nominated David Jenkins, seconded by Mark Riffle. Andrea Kacinari nominated Mark Riffle, seconded by Lisa Takach. There were no further nominations. The Board proceeded to vote and Mark Riffle was elected Vice Chair for 2009 by a vote of 3-2.

The secretary distributed a flyer announcing the Medina County Department of Planning Zoning Workshops for January – May 2009 and all board members were encouraged to attend these very informative workshops. The workshops will be held at the University of Akron, Medina County Campus, 6300 Technology Lane, Room 309 in Lafayette Township and commence at 6:30 p.m. The first scheduled workshop is January 21st on the topic of “Basics of Zoning” with Bill Thorne from the Medina County Prosecutor’s Office as the speaker.
The secretary advised that Zoning Inspector Alliss Strogin had recently obtained a more detailed map of the Chippewa Lake area and she is doing further research into the issue of the nonconforming lots in that area.
The secretary distributed a draft copy of the Lafayette Township Comprehensive Plan revision for the members to review. In the next few months there will be township meetings to review this draft before it is finalized.
