LAFAYETTE TOWNSHIP BOARD OF ZONING APPEALS

Special Meeting for General Business

6776 Wedgewood Road, Medina, Ohio

December 4, 2008, at 7:00 p.m.

Chair Andrea Kacinari called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.  Roll call indicated five members of the Board of Zoning Appeals were present:  Dave Parker, Mark Riffle, Andrea Kacinari, Paul Calvo (alternate) and Jack Chester (alternate).  Jack Blank was absent.  Also present was Zoning Inspector Alliss Strogin.

Minutes

Upon motion by Dave Parker, duly seconded by Mark Riffle, the minutes of the

October 2, 2008, meeting was approved and signed.

Correspondence

The secretary advised that BZA Board member Jack Blank had resigned due to health problems.  He has served the township and the community for over 30 years in various capacities (fire department, zoning commission and board of zoning appeals).

The secretary distributed the November 21, 2008, letter from Attorney James O’Connor relative to the status of the pending Eck v. Bady et al v. Lafayette Township et al matter.

Old Business

For informational purposes, the secretary distributed a summary list of the Conditional Use and Variance applications that had been considered by the BZA from April 2005 – December 2008.

The Board again briefly discussed the nonconforming lots in the Chippewa Lake area.  As previously indicated, Assistant Prosecutor Thorne suggested that the first step before determining what approach might be better for the township would be to determine how many lots might be affected.  The secretary had MCDPS prepare a map of the subject area for the zoning inspector to review before talking with the Prosecutor’s Office.  The zoning inspector explained to the board the area in question and the possible way a blanket variance or special zoning could work for this area.  This matter will be discussed further with the Prosecutor’s Office for input and suggestions.

New Business

The secretary advised that the Zoning Commission had just received the draft of the Lafayette Township Comprehensive Plan revision and a copy will be distributed to this board at the next meeting.

Announcements

The next Board of Zoning Appeals meeting is scheduled for Thursday, January 8, 2009, at 7 p.m. at the town hall.
