Board Organi= zation

Zoning Secretary Marlene Oiler called the organization= al meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. Roll call indicated five members of the Zoning Commission were present: Karen Schoonover, Sherri Meinke, R= uss Green, Matt Strehle and Dianne Wenslow (alternate). Mike Biskup was absent. Others present included: Joanne Green and Zoning Inspector = Alliss Strogin. Zoning Liaison Trust= ee Lynda Bowers was present during a portion of the meeting.

Nominations for the office of Chair for 2010 were opened. Sherri Meinke nominat= ed Karen Schoonover, seconded by Russ Green.&= nbsp; There were no further nominations.&= nbsp; The

vote was unanimous and Karen Schoonover will be Chair = for 2010.

Nominations for the office of Vice Chair for 2010 were opened. Sherri Meinke nominat= ed Russ Green, seconded by Karen Schoonover.&= nbsp; There were no further nominations.&= nbsp; The vote was unanimous and Russ Green will be Vice Chair for 2010.

After discussion it was determined that the regular Zo= ning Commission meeting date for 2010 will continue to be the first Tuesday of e= ach month at 7:00 p.m. at the Lafayette Township Hall, 6776 Wedgewood Road, Medina= , Ohio.

The Public Body Rules of Procedure should be received shortly and will be considered at a later date.

Regular Meet= ing

Minutes

Upon motion by Sherrie Meinke, duly seconded by Russ G= reen, the December 1, 2009, meeting minutes were unanimously approved as submitte= d.

Correspondence

The secretary distributed a handout of the Signage Definitions from Normal, Illinois, which will be used as refere= nce material.

It was indicated an e-mail had been received from Tom Russell, MCDPS, announcing the 2010 Zoning Workshop dates (January-April) a= nd Webinar dates (January- March). The Webinars will be held at the MCDPS office and the Zoning Workshops will be = held at the Medina District Library, 210 South Broadway, <= st1:place w:st=3D"on">Medina. All Board members with an e-mail address should be receiving these notices from the MCDPS.

Zoning Inspector Report

The zoning inspector reported there had been several communications between Mr. Huber (Medina County Building Department) and Mr. James (Medina County Park District) relative to the building constructed by= the Park District on Ballash R= oad. Although it is not mandatory for a governmental agency to get approval from another governmental agency (count= y, township, etc.) it is a common courtesy for any governmental agency to go t= hrough the proper procedures for site plans, etc.= It had not been done in this instance and the fire inspector review indicated a problem, which resulted in the various communications between departments.

New Business=

Russ Green announced that the= Lafayette Township Annual Benefit Dinner and Auction is being held on Saturday, Janua= ry 30, 2010, at 6:30 p.m. at the Lafayette Township Hall. Tickets are $15/person or $30/coup= le and he has tickets available for purchase.&nbs= p; Donation of auction items are welcome. Proceeds will be donated to needy families in Lafayette Township (administered by the Lafayette United Methodist Church) and the Lafayette Youth Baseball League.

Old Business=

Chair Schoonover announced th= at the next meeting for the Lafayette Township Comprehensive Plan revision is scheduled for Tuesday, January 12, 2010, at 6:30 p.m. at the township hall. All are encouraged to a= ttend.

It was decided that the Zoning Commission would hold a Workshop on Thursday, January 14, 2010, at 7:00 p.m= . at the township hall. Bring all = your signage reference materials for the workshop. We will be looking at rewriting the purpose clause, deciding upon classifications of signs for our township and working on definitions.

Other Business

The Zoning Commission trustee= liaison for 2010 is Lynda Bowers. Tru= stee Bowers administered the oath of office to Dianne Wenslow and Matthew Strehl= e as newly appointed members of the Zoning Commission for 2010. Trustee Bowers stated she was the = zoning board liaison/resource person and would be available to discuss any concern= s or answer any questions but the other two trustees can likewise be contacted.<= /p>
