Chairman Karen Schoonover called the meeting to order = at 7:00 p.m. Roll call indicated= five members of the Zoning Commission were present: Karen Schoonover, Russ Green, Sher= ri Meinke, Mike Biskup and Matt Strehle. Dianne Wenslow (alternate) was also present along with Zoning Inspec= tor Alliss Strogin.
It was determined to skip over the “Purpose̶=
1;
clause for the time being and work on the Definitions or Classification of
Signs. The draft
Classification of Signs terms along with regulations discussed and other
miscellaneous items is included at the end of these minutes. Reference materials included zoning

Upon motion by Karen Schoonover, duly seconded by Mike Biskup, it was unanimous that the meeting be adjourned. Meeting adjourned at 8:45 p.m.

For the purposes of these regulations, a sign shall be classified by physical design or structure.
Sign. Any identification, description, illustration, object or devise which is affixe= d to or integrated into a building or structure or land, or otherwise situated o= n a lot and which is intended to announce, direct or advertise by any means including letters, words, figures, designs, colors, symbols, fixtures, or images.
Awning or Canopy Sign. Any sign that is painted on, part =
of or
attached to an awning, canopy, or other fabric, plastic, or structural
protective cover over a door, entrance, window, or outdoor service area.
Billboard.&nbs= p; A sign that directs attention to a business, commodity, service or entertainment conducted, sold, or offered at a location other than the prem= ises on which the sign is located.
Changeable Copy Sign. A sign such as a bulletin board or announcement board, where the message or graphics is not permanently affixe= d to the structure, framing, or background and may be periodically replaced or covered over manually or by electronic/digital or mechanical devices, which cannot be changed less than every sixty (60) seconds.
Directional Sign. Any sign that is designed and erec= ted for the purpose of providing direction and/or orientation for pedestrian or vehicular traffic.
Banner, flag or pennant. Any sign of lightweight fabric, pl= astic, paper or similar material that is attached to any structure, pole, line or = vehicle. National, state or municipal flags, displayed as such in an appropriate manner, shall not be considered banners.
Flashing Sign.= An illuminated sign, which exhibits changing light or color effects = by blinking or any other such means so as to provide a non-constant illumination.
Ground Sign.&n= bsp; A freestanding sign placed upon or mounted in the ground independent= of any other structure.
Illuminated Sign. A sign with an artificial light so= urce incorporated internally or externally for the purpose of illuminating the sign.
Address Sign.&= nbsp; A sign indicating the address of a property to easily allow identification by safety services. <= /span>
Nonconforming Sign. Any sign existing on or after the effective date of Lafayette Township Sign Regulations Chapter ____, which d= oes not conform to said Regulations in its entirety.

Projecting Sign. A sign attached to a building or wall and which extends beyond the l= ine of said building or wall in such a manner that the exposed face or faces of= the sign are generally perpendicular to or at an angle to the plane of the wall= of the building or structure to which said sign is attached, with its leading = edge extending not more than eighteen inches (18”) beyond the surface of s= uch building or wall.

Regul= ations and Miscellaneous Discussion Items.
(Billboard Regulation: Billboard. Billboards = shall be permitted in commercial and industrial district and land u= sed for agriculture as required by Ohio Revised Code Section 519.20 and shall require a zoning certificate. Such sign shall be located so as to maintain the same minimum front, side and re= ar yard requirements as for buildings in that district, except that no such si= gn shall be located closer than one thousand feet (1000’) to a dwelling. Nor shall any such sign be permitt= ed closer than one thousand feet (1000’) to a public park, public or pri= vate school, library, church, hospital or similar institution. The maximum area of such sign shal= l be three hundred (300) square feet. The maximum height of such sign shall be thirty-five feet (35’). Such sign visibl= e to approaching traffic on either or both sides of a right-of-way except as otherwise permitted by law, and shall have a minimum spacing of five hundred feet (500’).
