LAFAYETTE TOWNSHIP ZONING COMMISSION

Regular Meeting

6776 Wedgewood Road, Medina, Ohio

November 5, 2008 @ 7:00 p.m.

Chair Karen Schoonover called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.  Roll call indicated six members of the Zoning Commission were present:  Karen Schoonover, Dianne Wenslow, Mike Biskup, Sherri Meinke, Russ Green and Peggy Folk (alternate).  Others present included:  Zoning Inspector Alliss Strogin, Trustee Don Butler and Trustee Lee Kehoe (at 7:22 p.m.).

Minutes

Upon motion by Mike Biskup, duly seconded by Sherri Meinke, the minutes of the October 7, 2008, regular meeting was unanimously approved and signed.

Correspondence

The secretary distributed a memo advising that the Lafayette Township Drug Free Workplace training was scheduled for Wednesday, November 12th at 7 p.m. and Thursday, November 13th at 7 p.m.  Every employee is required to attend one of these two sessions at the town hall.

Old Business

A draft copy of the Values and Issues portion of the pending revision to the Lafayette Township Comprehensive Plan had been received and distributed for the Board’s review earlier.  Chair Schoonover advised that she had talked with the plan facilitator, Bob Arnold, about the balance of the plan and he advised his computer crashed earlier but he would get the rest of the draft out soon.  Some discussion comments about the draft included:

-         Don’t see much direction in it;

-         It needs more definition;

-         It included fact gathering categories;

-         It summarized what the steering team discussed;

-         It is a collaborative effort with the community involved;

-         Is it a workable document;

-         Some rewriting needs to be done;

-         It is a vision for the future.

Other discussion ensued about the possibility of ad hoc groups to look at the scenic venues in the township, a town center, and a township logo and/or identification factor.  Peggy Folk volunteered to contact Bob Arnold relative to a deadline for receiving the balance of the draft plan and when a meeting would be scheduled for the steering committee to review it.  The next steps would be for a public meeting to review the plan, the Zoning Commission review and the Trustees review.  Peggy will keep the Board and Trustees advised of her contact with Bob Arnold.

It was suggested that once the entire comprehensive plan draft was received and ready for review, perhaps it could be put on the township website to be available to others for review and/or comments.  Chair Schoonover suggested that the Board might want to go on-line and look at the Chatham Township comprehensive plan, which was recently completed.

New Business

 An Application for Site Plan Review and Preliminary Site Plan for Wedgewood Villas P.U.D. Subdivision was received and copies distributed to the Board and the Trustees.  The MCDPS meeting to review this site plan is scheduled for Wednesday, December 3, 2008.  The Board should review the application/site plan before its next regular meeting where it will be discussed.

It was decided that a thank you note should be prepared from the Board to be sent to retiring Fire Chief Jim Sheppard for his many years of service to the township and to the Board.

Announcements

-         The next regular meeting of the Board will be Tuesday, December 2, 2008, at 7 p.m. at the town hall.

Adjournment

Upon motion by Karen Schoonover, duly seconded by Dianne Wenslow, it was unanimous that the meeting be adjourned.  Adjourned at 8:05 p.m.
